Robin Williams is one of those influences goes influence on me changed over the course of his own life and how it played out. Initially as a kid in the 80’s, I like most people, was flabbergasted and enthralled with reruns of Mork and Mindy. Crazy, Zany, fun, fun, fun, Mork.m from Ork. The energy and spontaneity were the first great influence on a spazzy little kid like me. As I got older and Williams blockbuster sequence of films emerged, I still loved the spontaneity of His comedic instincts, but I began to admire his ability to pick his spots. This spazzy little kid was desperate to reign in the spazz, when necessary but still maintain that energy in my back pocket. As a minor thespian in the late 1990’s, I rooted for and celebrated Williams best supporting actor Oscar win for the “How you like them Apples” movie, which I have still not seen to this day as I have refused to see anything with either of the movie’s writers and costars in it. The lone exception was the Kevin Smith directed Dogma which Von made me watch one time, and I have since boycotted Mr Smith’s work as well (we’ll see what he does with the Herman Netflix series he is producing). Williams work turned more and more dramatic/creepy as he aged. And his death by his own hand has taught me much as a therapist who has contemplated his life and how it lead him to its ultimate conclusion.
