Success is not really a product of being smarter than everyone else and having better ideas. It’s really about getting enough people onboard to get your project done. If you can garner enough support you can do anything.
The problem is I think the only way to garner support is to blatantly show how much smarter and better my ideas are. I know I’m not smarter and my ideas aren’t the best, so I do nothing with them. It’s like why even play basketball if you can’t be Michael Jordan? A funny corollary to this is that we will do things even if just one person does think we are the best. I basically haven’t played basketball for 5 years because of the “what’s the point?” But if my sons wanted to see me play because they think daddy is the best I would play for them. If we have the support of even a few like minded people anything seems possible. No body does anything alone:
Just like business leaders say their success is not building the right workforce and hiring and promoting the right people in the organization, finding and cultivating that support is the key to success at whatever level you are at.
